If you’re reading this, there’s a high chance you’re following the Bath Bike Park project, or perhaps this is the first you’ve heard of it and you’re reading with excitement! Either way, I’ll fill you in on what’s happening…
Towards the beginning of this year, we won a long and competitive tender process to build a new facility on the site of the old Entry Hill golf course in Bath. Our proposal featured a bike park at the core of project but also a variety of other facilities. We sit in the position of ‘preferred bidder’. That simply means, the local authority believes Pedal Progression are the best suited company for the site, with the best offer. There is still lots to do before we can begin the build and open fully.
Right now there are a number of surveys taking place that will create the red lines which dictate exactly how the park can be built. Ground surveys, ecology surveys, traffic and travel surveys, noise surveys… These all all have to be completed before solid plans can be made. There’s also a public consultation running alongside these surveys which you can take part in here. It’s important you get involved as all of these things will shape what’s in the final build.
With the above explained then, it’ll be a while before the diggers are in, or even a spade hits the ground. In the meantime we’re working behind the scenes on lots of admin bits as well as spearheading our own community engagement in Bath.
Part of our offer is to continue the work we’ve started in Bristol (for the last 10 years) in introducing people to mountain biking, including those groups who might not usually take part. The Bike Park is to be progressive. Something for all abilities of rider, as well as other provisions running alongside for those less interested in bikes.
Bath Bike Park will be a community site and so we’re inviting those who are interested in the project to come and meet us and see what our business is about. Whether riders, locals residents or those who love great coffee and cake! That’s what our ‘Summer Of Fun’ is for.
Our Summer Of Fun programme is about:
- Meeting the local community
- Encouraging outdoor leisure and active lifestyle
- Letting people know that the site is open to the public and that it’s beautiful!
- Creating an info hub where people can learn about our plans and ask questions
We are doing this through opening a pop up cafe on site and running some children’s activities with some other key activity providers from the Bath area. This is all happening on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 29th July until 28th August. A full programme of those activities can be found in our newest mailout, here.
If you want to support the project, now is a great time! Come and visit. Bring your bike, check out the site and dream with us. Sit, drink quality coffee and watch mountain bike movies in the cafe. Stuff yourselves with delicious cake and ice cream. Your interest and business will help us as we push on towards planning application this Autumn. We are hoping for a Spring 2022 build and a Summer opening.
You’ll find us at Entry Hill Golf Course, Entry Hill, Bath, BS2 5NA
See you soon, cheers!
