You don’t need me to tell you we have a pretty big single use pollution problem (aka litter) on our bike trails and environment at large. In fact, you don’t need anyone to tell you! The Lucozade bottles, coffee cups, dog poop bags and energy gels (my personal fave) flow through our forests as (un)naturally as the rivers and the seas they very likely end up in.
Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, we’ve been unable to host the summer shop rides we’ve previously enjoyed! Now that we’re able to, we’re bringing them back with a twist of purpose, that being to clean our trails!
We’re linking up with our mates at Trash Free Trails (TFT) to make this an even more purposeful ride. For those of you are new to Trash Free Trails, they have big mission: To reduce single-use pollution (aka; litter!) on our trails and wild places by 75% by 2025 and (re)connect people with nature through purposeful adventure. TFT have a research project called the State of Our Trails Report (SoOT) which aims to establish a baseline understanding of the causes, prevalence, impacts and potential solutions to single-use pollution on our trails and wild places. SoOT needs riders like us to be citizen scientists, getting out there to remove and record the single use pollution on our trails.
So come join the Pedal Progression crew for a series of local trail ride & cleans!
